The Mornington Island Health Council have a team of local Aboriginal people who work to provide health services and support to our community. We have long-standing partnerships with local and visiting health services, working together to optimise the health and wellbeing of our people.

Service Coordination

  • Support visiting child health service providers
  • Support health literacy by providing parents/carers with practical actions they can undertake to protect and look after their child’s health, with the support of qualified health practitioners

  • Support primary health services with better surveillance, referrals and follow-up care
  • Improve attendance rates
  • Provide local knowledge and intelligence to optimise family engagement and enhance the cultural safety of health services

Virtual Health Care

Mornington Island Virtual Health Care Trial represents a very new model of care for our community, by providing community-based health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living with Type 2 Diabetes on Mornington Island through the provision of remote patient monitoring systems.

  • Full health check, assessment, screening and testing including blood sugar levels, HbA1c, urine ACR and cholesterol
  • Foot checks, eye health checks
  • Diabetes education and advice about nutrition
  • Care planning and ongoing medical advice in partnership with Gidgee Healing
